One of my favorite craft sites I like to stop by like every week is the totally awesome Aunt Peaches, "the Citizen Kane of craft blogs", whether its for the awesome paper flower tutorials I keep coming back for (nearly got all the friday flowers done!), or just the stories embedded in said tutorials (like the Lunch Lady Flowers debacle over pieces of an ear and ketchup cups, or the touching and enlightened A Cow for Madame Violoneux). I always keep a couple tabs open in case I need some late night story and crafting tips. I read weird things before bed.
In her honor, I've collected some of my favorite halloween decoration crafts cuz, man, we love halloween. Maybe not as much as that strange house with the dolls (another story), but enough to make Liberace pumpkins and dancing porch skeletons.
FIRST UP: ZOMBIE LANTERNS! Its like the Michael Myers mask but punched to 11. Same concept: grab a celebrity skin--NO NOT HOLE--mask, paint that sucker up, and stick onto a pumpkin candy bucket. Click link or image for the tutorial.
The pic is pretty frightening, doubly so since its Nixon's face stretched to 2 sundays, but I think that's half the charm.
I could image a could in our front yard for the graveyard, kinda like the low rent version of the singing heads from Disney's haunted mansion, but they wouldn't be nearly as cool with dead/former president faces. Though Shatner....
Now let's talk LIBERACE PUMPKINS. I do love the man. Wonderful pianist, those outfits, and damn, flair for days. If only I had an ounce of that but I'll deal with making fabu pumpykins and wearing giant pipecleaner rings in the shape of flowers. Or pumpkins.
If you like that post, check out the follow up involving more rhinestones and maybe leopard print. Can I get a fuck yeah for rhinestones?
S'what I'm talkin' about, Willis.
More pumpkin tutorials, you say? How about this swag-ass silk scarf pumpkin?
This is some advanced level decoupaging, so make sure you're ready like Freddy for this, chickies. It takes a good eye for thrift store scarves to make this one work. The tip here is to get natural fibers, so go for pure silk scarves and handkerchiefs. And sequins. Hella sequins.
Left over pumpkin seeds? Not a problem with this tutorial on making a totally adorable necklace. Its got gold leaf on it, and I am all over that. I've never had the heart to try it but now I certainly will. Sparkly things are my jam. I'm prolly part hobo-part magpie.
There's also a sweet brooch post on using pumpkin seeds that I've yet to try since its on my friday flowers list. I don't have a cat to tease with it, but maybe the puppy will be enticed. Right now she's afraid of my Mario Odyssey Cappy hat.
Not that I'm chasing her around the house with it. NO HEAVENS.
LOOKIT THAT GORGEOUS GOURD. This tutorial (hosted on the Aeleen's Tacky Glue site, gives the deets on making your own glittering orb of pump. Or...whatever I was trying to say.
BUT DIO. CRAFT HERPES. Never fear, gentle reader. Peaches also has the best tutorial to getting that sparkle to stick where its meant to, and its all included with a step by step on how to make your own Disco Donna Summer Giraffe.
No seriously. Click the link. It'll be the best thing happening to you since Eggo Waffle ice cream sandwiches.
Without Peaches, I wouldn't be going to Dollar Tree/Dollar Stores to hunt for cheap crafts supplies, so I have her to thank for the gigantic paper mache'd Tide Pod vase filled with cheap flowers for crafting. No, paper mache-ing the Tide Pod container wasn't her idea, it was mine one boring week off this last summer, but the fake flower collection I have is.
This has nothing to do with wreaths except that this awesome door hanger requires floral wire (which yes, you can find in a Dollar Store), some cheapy skeletons and a hand full of spanish moss. The secret here isn't Calgon, but some spray paint and deft fingers.
If you get the Calgon reference, you're either hella old or you're a MST3K fan. Either way, I AM OLD.
LOOKIT HOW CUTE THIS GUY IS!!! AND YOU CAN EAT HIM!!! OMG.
Looking for a cute halloween sweet to knock your guests socks off? Try this marshmallow ghost expresso brownie recipe, made with cold brew expresso.
I've also heard good things about tossing chopped up treat sized Milky Ways into brownie batter, which sounds phenomenal. But then I like my sweets. They like me too much, but its a love-love-hate-love relationship everyone has with chocolate.
Speaking of parties, try out this lovely luminaries, made from wax paper bags. Even electric, fake tea lights will look extra special in these babies.
Speaking of, has anyone ever seen the kind that change color?? Someone took a couple of ours out of the jack o lanterns we made one year and I'm dying to get some more. I'd buy those light cubes, but I prefer the tea light route. I'm old fashioned like that.
Look out Indiana Jones, there's a new crystal skull in town. This awesome skull friend is made with collage clay, which is quite literally, the frosting of adhesives. Get a couple tubes, some skulls, and a bucket full of the sparkly stuff, we're gonna have a party.
Seriously guys, if I only have time for ONE of these crafts I'm posting, you can bet your cute hinders its gonna be this sucker. I need sparkles. I need a Solid Gold skull watching me play games and sleep. I'm weird like that.
Speaking of skulls, I miss when my great grandmother would make sugar skulls. I teach at a few spanish immersion schools, and one of them had like 3 pallet boxes of skulls waiting for their fall fair in the room I was borrowing. MAN, DO I WANT ONE NOW. So in honor of my heritage, check out these totally awesome sugar skulls and a mask. Also, that purse in the link? I got one similar to it when I went to Epcot in Disney World. That purse is a SPARKLY MOFO, and it holds exactly one wallet, an ipod and an iphone in a case. That purse is my october best friend. He's name's Paco.
Hilariously, in the link, Peaches had a contention with another co-worker that the skulls were more like luchadors than sugar skulls. She bet her a dollar. A quick google search for her, and
She might owe her a buck. XD
Hope you all enjoyed the little tutorial dump. Hit us back when you got Liberace pumpkins and Luchador skulls coming out your ears.
