So it has been established that the person that keeps on riding towards these kids and tells them horror stories late in the day to possibly give them nightmares…is an asshole. This is evidenced by the increasing level of creepiness of these horror stories. In our first dive we saw how protective charms and rituals, if tampered with, can lead to great misfortune. The second dive gave us a look at how sometimes overworking ourselves opens up a gateway for demons to come in and say hello. How will this dive fare? Let us see.
Episode 7: Contradiction
This is my second or third time watching this particular episode and it STILL MAKES ME FEEL UNEASY! This is how it was when I first watched it. A woman named Yuuko is woken up in the middle of the night by a friend of hers, Mayumi. Turns out, she and her boyfriend, Tooru decided to head into an abandoned hospital (WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT THOSE?!). As they go in, Mayumi feels a presence watching them, but Tooru heads in deeper, breaking a locked door and heading inside. Mayumi follows…and Tooru doesn’t look
or move the same as he used to anymore. Creepy stuff right? Well, Mayumi asks if she could stay at Yuuko’s for a bit; understandable, seeing as something THAT CREEPY does warrant some time with friends. Then there’s a knock at Yuuko’s door…it’s Tooru. He’s yelling saying that he and Mayumi went into this abandoned hospital to test their courage. Mayumi went further inside, broke the lock on a door, and went inside. He followed…but didn’t see her until he went inside. At the end of both of their conversations, one question was the same:
“I can leave?”
Episode 8: The Umbrella Goddess
Hot summer days usually lead to unique ways of cooling off. One such family was cooling off during a hot summer day by eating some watermelon. The son’s friend, Kenji, was visiting for the day. As the son, Takeru, went to grab some watermelon for Kenji, the young boy saw the strangest sight; a woman holding an umbrella at the bus stop…in her mouth. Her head was held at an awkward angle too. From her mouth, can be heard one word:
“Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiii…”
Takeru didn’t see it, but his father KNEW was going on, and he told Kenji to lock himself in the shed for the night and not to open it for anyone. Takeru comes to visit Kenji. Kenji opens the door. “Shiiiiiiiiiiii…” Weird Freaky Shit happens throughout the night. When morning comes around, Kenji emerges from the shed, thinking that he’s free…yeah, about that…
Episode 9: Cursed
This one is both creepy and saddening. It also reminded me of the third Fatal Frame. A student by the name of Kotone was afflicted with a terrible curse; a grudge curse as it is found out later on. The mother takes
her up to the local Shinto Shrine in order to try and remove the curse. The ritual is completed, and everything seems to have gone well.
The next day, Kotone’s getting ready to head off to school; she’s looking much happier now. The
mother then gets a call from the shrine. As she’s thanking her, she gets the news that the priestess that helped died the night before. She only had one message left for the family; one of apology.
There are some things that should not be broken…
