As one of the resident drinkers of the site, I decided to peruse the internet for some tasty cocktails for your Halloween month. Note, we at Random Lunacy encourage you to drink and enjoy responsibly. Must be over 21 or legal drinking age to consume the following beverages. Thank you for not smoking.
First on the list is from The Flavor Bender: the Witch's Heart--one snazzy girl, made with Viniq, otherwise known as that awesome shimmery liqueur that makes it look like you're drinking nail polish. No, seriously, this stuff is gorgeous (and strong!). I've never had it before, and lord knows I wanna go track some down. Hell I'd just sit there and play with the bottle of it and swish it around for hours XD.
Don't have any around? Not to worry, the recipe for this cocktail also has links in the recipe for making your own shimmering alcohol, and alternatives for making this tasty and striking cocktail. And its purple, and lord knows I love purple drinks. :9
Don't forget to check out the article's vid too, since its also very helpful.
Next on the list is The Spruce's recipe for a classic Halloween image: The Black Cat. This is a cola vodka recipe for you vodka fans. The addition of the cherry is my favorite detail but I'm a sucker for cola cocktails with marachino cherries. Sorta like an alcoholic cherry coke flavor profile. The recipe is pretty easy and cut and dry.
Popsugar's latina side of the site has this strikingly awesome cocktail with a dripping fake blood rim called Dracula's Blood. This is a rather different kinda cocktail, which includes not only pomegranate, but also beet juice! Its not a common kinda drink ingredient, but the color palette couldn't be more perfect. The drink rims are a syrup made from the beet juice, as well as the main cocktail, which lends itself to really looking like a goblet of blood. The rim can be left to harden or licked as you drink after it cools enough. I personally love poms, so I'm excited to try this out soon, assuming I don't burn the house down learning how to make syrup.
Don't ask, I have a very unusual cooking career.
Another Spruce recipe coming your way. I know candy corn can be a divisive candy, so if you want the color scheme of the treat but not necessarily the flavor profile, try this Peach Candy Corn Cocktail, which uses a sort of "sunrise" effect to evoke the candy's look, but comes out with more of a fruity taste (grenadine and pineapple). The highlight is the use of IZZE sparkling juice.
Pineapple and Coconut has a really neat Liquid Ghost drink that's more of the cream persuasion. If you're more of the creamy cocktail fan, this might be worth your time, though I know not many people are fans of milky or creamy cocktails. Still, if you wanna drink a ghost, this is one way of doing it. Another is a glass of chilled Ecto Cooler.
Pineapple and Coconut also has a sparkling cocktail called The Bride of Frankenstein if you're more into the effervescent side. This sweetie includes the use of blackberries, and poured into flutes, they really evoke the Frankenstein and Bride feel.
The article makes an aside about Young Frankenstein. If you haven't seen it, its a fantastic movie. The first time I showed my sister, she turned to me during that credits sequence that borrows so well from classic monster movies and asked "This IS a comedy, right?" It didn't take long into the "PUT. THE CANDLE. BACK." scene to be rolling on the floor. This is one of my favorite Mel Brooks movies, next to Blazing Saddles, which is equally hysterical, if not more so. Just ask Choco. 8D
"Are we crunked?"
The Drunken Moogle presents a small series of Resident Evil themed drinks/shots which are all pretty visually striking. Now these drinks are pretty cool, like using a candy to make the helixes in one of the T-Virus shots, but the ones pictured right are most impressive as they require one to make your own gel tubes from booze and sugar and using plastic tubes, food syringe and black magic. Its worth a checkout since it was one of the only set of horror game themed drinks I could find. I might have to make some for Silent Hill and Fatal Frame.
Be sure to follow the link in the Drunken Moogle's main post for the virus shots, as they take you to the genius who came up with them. :9
To finish up, here's a great article wherein Akira Yamaoka of Silent Hill fame, and Goichi Suda of Killer 7 fame assign drinks to their respective games. Its pretty hilarious.
And lastly, here's a tip article from tbsp for those of you who'd like to use dry ice in their cocktails for that spooky fog effect. Check it out since working with dry ice can be a little dangerous without proper safety.
Enjoy responsibly!!
