Terance Storrar only had a dozen rides in the 1897/88 National Hunt season but did manage one winner.
His first ride had been at Newbury on November 12, 1986, when Doubleuagain was seventh of nine finishers in the Chequers Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle.
Doubleuagain had completed the course in the 1984 Grand National and had also given jockey Charlie Mann his most memorable ride in the world’s most famous steeplechase in 1986. Defying their no-hoper odds of 500-1, Charlie and Doubleuagain led or disputed the lead for the whole of the first circuit and was still in front when being balked and brought down by a loose horse at the first fence on the second circuit.
Terry gained his sole success when Thirty Acre recorded a comfortable victory in the Stanmer Conditional Jockeys’ Selling Handicap Hurdle at Plumpton on November 25, 1987. The five-year-old took the lead soon after halfway and came home 15 lengths clear of Springdale Star. It was Terry’s first ride on the gelding who had not been placed in seven previous starts that season and, understandably, started at 25-1.
He kept the ride and finished second three times on him that season but never quite managed to add to his solitary success.
