Jack Smith had nearly 200 rides under National Hunt rules in four seasons after World War II, winning 17 races.

He made his debut at Ludlow on October 2, 1946, when Farigoule was unplaced in the Selling Handicap Hurdle. It was more than a year before he had his first winner, but at Nottingham on October 27, 1947, his mount, Scot’s Request, came through to lead after the final flight and land the Gotham Hurdle (Division 1) by two lengths.

According to the form book, Bon Nuit either fell at the first or slipped up in the Topham Trophy on March 22, 1950.
