Adrian Sharpe

National Hunt jockey Adrian John Sharpe was born on May 11, 1962. He rode his first winner on Linarto for Nottinghamshire permit holder Frank Coton in an amateur riders’ handicap chase at Leicester on March 2, 1981.

He enjoyed his best season in 1983/84, riding 15 winners including five abroad, most notably the Swedish Grand National.

He rode as amateur rider for Fred Rimell and, following Fred’s death, for his widow Mercy Rimell. He rated riding Mrs Rimell’s Pilot Officer in the 1984 Grand National as the highlight of his career, albeit they were well behind when refusing at the nineteenth fence.

Probably the best horse he rode was Connaught Ranger, on whom he won three hunter chases at Newbury, Warwick and Ascot in 1984.

He subsequently turned professional and became stable jockey to Welford-on-Avon trainer Christopher Trietline.

After retiring from the saddle he became a BHA stipendiary steward. In November 2017 he was sent on secondment to the Emirates Racing Authority (ERA) to carry out stewarding duties in Dubai.
