Albert Skelton

1865 -1933


National Hunt jockey Albert Burton Skelton was born in Lichfield on May 17, 1865.

He had his first ride over jumps at Derby on November 17, 1882, finishing unplaced. He rode his first winner on Broomieknowe in the Hunters’ Selling Steeplechase at Four Oaks Park on Wednesday, February14, 1883.

Albert enjoyed his most successful year in 1884 with 11 wins. He went on to accumulate a total of 54 winners over jumps, the last of them on Soudan, the 6-4 favourite, in the Selling Steeplechase at Quorn Hunt on April 25, 1892.

He had his final mount on a horse named Atherstone in the Open Handicap Chase at Rugby Hunt on March 21, 1895, finishing unplaced.

Albert Skelton died in 1933.
