Bob Sloggett

National Hunt jockey Robert Hutton (Bob) Sloggett started his racing life with Ditchling, Sussex trainer Alan Oughton and rode his first winner on Young Friendly in a Warwick selling chase on February 10, 1962.

Remaining in Sussex, Bob subsequently had a brief spell riding for Pyecombe trainer Joseph Boyes and rode three winners for him at the Devon tracks at the start of the 1963/64 season, beginning with Quel Diable in the Okemont Novice Riders’ Selling Handicap Hurdle at Newton Abbot on August 14, 1963. He won a Devon & Exeter selling hurdle on Ben Gets Busy on September 1, then followed up on Quel Diable in non-selling company at Newton Abbot later that month.

That second Newton Abbot success on Quel Diable turned out to be the last winner of Bob’s riding career. He had relinquished his licence by the end of the season.

Bob Sloggett’s winners were, in chronological order:

1. Young Friendly, Warwick, February 10, 1962
