Kate Sellars had a couple of winners over hurdles in the 1990s, the first of which was at Hexham on Whit Monday, May 31, 1993, when As D’Eboli, trained by Micky Hammond, for whom Kate rode as a conditional, drew clear between the last two flights and held the challenge of David Wilkinson on Run Milady to land the Causey Hill Selling Hurdle by a head.
Kate had ridden the five-year-old at Carlisle when finishing fifth in a similar contest at Carlisle’s Easter meeting, that having been her first ride in public. Indeed, those two rides were the only ones she had that season.
She only had three rides during the 1993/94 campaign, all of them unplaced. It looked as if the 1994/95 season might be equally unrewarding, but at Perth on April 28 she rode Karen’s Lady Luck, also trained by Micky Hammond, to win the Campbell Boath Selling Conditional Hurdle by three and a half lengths, having taken the lead with two flights to jump.
Next time out, back at Perth on June 9, they finished second, beaten a neck, then pulled up lame in the Famous Grouse Handicap Hurdle at the same course nine days later. That was the not only the mare’s last start but also the final ride for her jockey.
Kate Sellars' first winner came at Hexham on Whit Monday, May 31, 1993
