John Steggles

John Steggles gained his most important victory as a 16-year-old on Fandango in the 1855 Great Metropolitan Handicap at Epsom.

After retiring from the saddle he worked for several years for a Croydon vet. He died at Croydon Infirmary of consumption on April 4, 1872, aged 33.

He was related to Samuel Steggles, who won the 1851 Cesarewitch on Mrs Taft.
