Frank Scorey

Frank Scorey was born in Lymington, Hampshire in 1850, the son of a publican. He was probably apprenticed to Henry Goater.

He began riding in the early 1860s but did not ride his first winner until 1865, when he rode a total of seven, including that year’s Cesarewitch on Salpinctes.

In late 1868 he was appointed steeplechase jockey to the Duke of Hamilton. He subsequently became a huntsman to the Rufford Hunt until a bad fall in 1900 ended his hunting career.

He then became landlord of The Vine at Freshwater, on the Isle of Wight and died there, aged 60, on May 19, 1911.
