John Saunders

John Saunders worked for Sir Charles Bunbury and was the rider aboard Eleanor (11/8 fav) when that horse won the 1801 Epsom Derby.

He died in 1811 and was buried at Great Barton, Suffolk, on May 23, 1811

Eleanor was the first filly to win the race: ridden by John Saunders, she also won that year's Epsom Oaks.
