Tim Sprake

Timothy Joseph Sprake was born in Sherborne, Dorset, on August 13, 1967, and became apprenticed to Dick Hern & John Wilson in Scotland.

His height was 5ft 2ins. and his first winner was Torrey at Lingfield on June 28, 1985.

Tim is one of seven children of a famous Dorset farming & point-to-pointing family. Aged 12, he rode his pony Brandy in the hunting field alongside Dick Hern.

He was just about making a name for himself when, on December 13, 1999, a car crash ended his career.

He had finished fifth in that year's jockey's table with 111 winners.

He had achieved his two biggest victories in 1998 on Cyrian in the Northumberland Plate and on Tamarisk in the Haydock Sprint Cup.
