Born in Islington, London in 1877, Nathan 'Daddy' Spear was the son of Nathan Spear (who rode mostly in France and died in London in 7 April 1913).
Nathan won 27 races in Germany in 1912 plus, back in England, the 1914 Victoria Cup on Jameson, 1914 King's Stand Stakes on Adular & the 1916 Princess of Wales's Stakes on Nassovian. He also won the 1920 Prince Edward Handicap at Manchester on Nant Coch.
He died at 58 Galpin's Road, Thornton Heath, Surrey on November 27, 1948. He left £9,575.
