Adjustments

Adjustments include the markups and discounts that you can apply to Transaction Items and to Estimates. A default Adjustment is loaded in Settings and Customer adjustments only need to be added if they differ from the default adjustment. This model makes it easy to change the default adjustment and to see which Customers have an adjustment that is different from the default adjustment.

When a new estimate is created, the system checks if a Customer adjustment exists and, if not, the default adjustment is applied.

Transaction Items

  1. Item Adjustment - Transaction items can be adjusted directly by setting the Adj % or the Adjustment fields or indirectly by setting the Total or /Unit fields by navigating to Main Menu > Items > Edit Item > Pricing.

2. Customer Adjustment - A default Customer adjustment can be set up under Main Menu > Setup > Customers > Menu > Set Adjustments - when an Item is added to a transaction, this adjustment is automatically added to the item.

  1. Markup (%) - This is where the value is entered that determines what the applied Markup percentage is for the Customer.

  2. Commission - This is where the value is entered to determine what percentage commission will go to the Sales Rep. The drop-down list determines what portion of the sale is allocated towards the Commission calculation:

    • % of Profit - This selection allows commission to be calculated based on the percentage of profit made on the sale.

    • % of Value Add - This selection allows commission to be calculated based on the value added - ie. the selling price less direct costs.

    • % of Selling Price - This allows commission to be calculated against a percentage of total selling price.

Estimates

Estimates are a type of Transaction Item, so the rules that apply to Transaction Items also apply to Estimate Items.

  1. Overall Adjustment - An overall adjustment, which serves as the standard markup for Estimates, can be set up in Settings & Defaults > Estimating > Default Markup % - this adjustment will, by default, be applied directly on the Estimate for each quantity.

2. Customer Adjustment - A default Customer adjustment, which will override the overall Default Markup % can be set up under Main Menu > Setup > Customers > Menu > Set Adjustments, as detailed above.

The adjusted price will, in turn, populate the Transaction item which can be adjusted by the Item.

Note

Adjustments applied at the Item level will only apply to the active quantity on the Estimate.
