The Component Estimating model uses a Treeview structure to organise the Components, Materials and Services required to produce a product or event.
The Quote Description is automatically generated from the Components that are linked to the Root Component. Material and Service Items that are added into the Components Treeview are replicated to the Services and Materials tabs from which the Cost of the Estimate is derived.
When the Item is added to the Estimate as a Component, the Item's Costing is added (if one exists) to Materials. When the Item is added to the Estimate as a Material, only the Item is added to Materials. Materials can be converted to Components and vice versa.

Ensure that Components have been enabled for Estimates. Navigate to Main Menu > Setup > Transaction Types > Transaction Types > Estimating - Components selected.
Main Menu > Customers > Quotations > New > Add > Estimate > Components tab
Reference - This is an Item Description that appears on the document sent to the Customer.
Comp Search / Add - This allows the user to Search for a Component by name or from the drop-down list, and to Add it by Qty.
Treeview - This data grid shows a breakdown of the Component by Description, Type, Depth, Width, Height, Unit, Size, Repeat, Waste %, Round Up, Quantity, and Unit. These are explained below.
Top level - This top level Component is the finished product.
Sub levels - The sub level Components are the Items that make up the finished product.
Quote Summary - This shows a breakdown of the Services, Material, Outwork, and Totals of the Quotation in a side panel.
There are three types of items that make up the Treeview of this Component based estimating model:
Components - Components are the nodes to which Materials and Services are linked. Components can also be linked to Components to expand the depth of the Treeview.
Materials - Materials are linked to Components and are setup in Items
Services - Services are linked to Components and are setup in Services
The Size functionality provides a way to measure the quantity of a Material or Service that is typically measured in Size, Area or Volume. The following size Types are supported:
Size - You can enter a Length, Area or Volume
Dia - You can enter the diameter of a circle
DxW - You can enter the Depth & Width of a rectangle
DxWxH - You can enter the Depth, Width & Height of a cube
C.Dia - The Diameter of a circle is extracted from the parent Component. The parent Component must be set to Type = Dia
C.D - The Depth of a rectangle is extracted from the parent Component. The parent Component must be set to Type =DxW or Type = DxWxH
C.W - The Width of a rectangle is extracted from the parent Component. The parent Component must be set to Type =DxW or Type = DxWxH
C.H - The Height of a cube is extracted from the parent Component. The parent Component must be set to Type = DxWxH
C.Area - The Area is extracted from the parent Component. The parent Component must be set to Type = Dia, Type = DxW or Type = DxWxH
C.Volume - The Volume is extracted from the parent Component. The parent Component must be set to Type = Dia or Type = DxWxH
C.Border - The Perimeter or Circumference is extracted from the parent Component. The parent Component must be set to Type = Dia, Type = DxW or Type = DxWxH
When using the Size to calculate the quantity, the Qty > Type needs to be set to x Rpt x Size.
The Quantity band contains the fields used to calculate the Qty of the Component, Material or Service.
Repeats (Rpt) - The quantity required per Item. This will be multiplied by the parent Qty and the Estimate Qty.
Type - This setting determines how the Qty will be calculated. Optiosn include:
Fixed - Qty = Fixed (Rpt qty)
x Repeat (x) - Qty = Rpt x Parent Qty
x Repeat x Size (x Size) - Qty = Size x Rpt x Parent Qty
x Repeat x Qty Up (x Qty Up) - Qty = Qty Up (Item size on Parent size) x Repeat x Parent Qty
x Repeat x Qty Out (x Qty Out) - Qty = Qty Out (Item size out of Parent size) x Repeat x Parent Qty
W% - Percentage that is added to the calculated Qty
RU - A factor to which the Total Qty is Rounded Up to - eg. RU = 1 rounds up to the next whole number
Qty - Qty required for each item
Total Qty - Total Qty required for the Product
Unit - Unit of the Component, Material or Service
You can setup Component and Material Types as Items in Main Menu > Items > Items. The fields that are used in this estimating model can be found on the 'Estimating' tab. Fields include:
Qty Type - Determines how the Qty is calculated.
Repeats - The Qty of the Item that is required to make one of the parent Component that it is linked to.
Waste % - Used to increase the Qty required by a percentage to cover potential waste during the manufacturing process.
Round Up - Used to round up the Qty - eg. if RU = 1, then the Qty is rounded up to a whole number.
Add to Quote Description - Determines whether or not the Item is added to the quote Description.
Size - The default Size type, units and Dimensions of the Item.
Component Templates can be created by adding a Costing Estimate to an Item. The root Component on the Costing Estimate must be the same Item to which the Costing is linked.
Services that are used in the Estimating Components model can be set up under Setup > Services.
The fields that are specific to the Components model include:
Qty - Determines how the Service Qty is calculated.
Size - Options determine the shape and dimensions to be entered. Options that are prefixed with a 'C' will take the parent Component size.
Dimensions (D, W, H) - These fields need only be populated if the Service uses a fixed size. If the 'Size' is extracted from the Component, they will be cleared.
Unit - fields are provided to set the input and output units.
The Service Description is added to the Component, but the Quote Description is added to the Quote Letter Description.
It is recommended that you use Categories to group similar Services and Items as the functionality to change a Service or Material on the estimate prompts users to select another Service/Material from the same Category.
The Transaction Type used for Item Costings is set under General Settings > Items & Inventory > Transaction Type - Item Costings.
It is recommended that the Components Estimating model is used to create the Bills of Material for Items. When creating Bills of Material in the 'Costing' Transaction Type, users are restricted to adding Components, Materials and Services to the Root only. ie. Items can't be added to Components. This ensures that a separate costing is created for each level of Manufacturing.
MaxCut is an application that calculates cutting diagrams. The entry-level FREE version as well as the paid versions are available from http://www.maxcutsoftware.com
QuickEasy provides the functionality to export the Estimating Components to MaxCut - See Estimate > Menu > Export to MaxCut. Two files will be exported:
Sheets and lengths used in the Estimate - Materials with a Size Type of DxW or C.Area
Panels required.
Importing Materials into MaxCut
Navigate to MaxCut > Main Menu > Manage > Materials > Sheets and click Import/Export > Import CSV.
Set Delimiters = Comma ','
Clear rthe Text Qualifier
Check Exclude First Row and click Import
Importing Panels into MaxCut
Navigate to the Input Items tab and click Import > Import CSV.
Set Delimiters = Comma ','
