For single user or multi-user installations, you will find the QuickEasy installation process straightforward and simple:
This topic covers how to install QuickEasy from scratch.
Create a folder on your C drive (local or server) and call it QuickEasy or BOS.
Create the following sub-folders:
a. Data
b. DataBackup
c. Temp
d. Docs
e. Utilities
Populate the QuickEasy folder by doing the following:
a. Download and extract Tools to the Utilities folder. Click here for more here on Tools
b. Register the Server. For more on Registering a Server, click here.
c. Download and extract the latest BOSEnterprise exe to the QuickEasy folder by navigating to Tools > Utilities > QuickEasy Downloads.
Alternatively, install Linux as a server. Click here for more on installing Linux. If the install is for a single user, ensure you do the server install and client install on that one machine.
Click here to download the optimised Firbird.conf file.
Download Firebird by navigating to Tools > Utilities > QuickEasy Downloads > Other > Firebird 3.0 (32 bit or 64 bit, depending on your computer).
Click through the Install Wizard.
Check 'Generate client library as GDS32.DLL for legacy InterBase support?'
Click Next. Create your SYSDBA username, and set the password to hjisthebest.
Do not deviate from the password above. This is the password used on the databases, and without it being set to that, you wouldn't be able to connect to the database, even if you did everything else correctly.
5. Click through the remainder of the installation.
Navigate to Tools > Server > Register Database. Follow the instructions laid out here.
If you do not have a database, contact Helpdesk for a blank database. You will receive a backup with file extension .fbk.
To restore the backup:
Set the database path directory to the correct location and file extension .fdb, as specified here.
Right click on the database, select Database Tools > Restore.
Select the .fbk file that was sent to you.
Click Start Restore. Once complete, click Close.
More here.
Setup the connection to the database by navigating to Tools > right-click on the database > Execute SQL statements. An Execute SQL statements window will pop up.
Click the File open icon on the toolbar, and navigate to the QuickEasy folder. Select the Initialise DB.sql script. Contact Heldpesk if you require this script.
Select the script, and click the purple arrow or 'Run' icon in the toolbar. Note - The script runs very fast. Look for the message 'Execution Complete' at the bottom right-hand corner of the window to check when it has finished running.
Once it is complete, you can close the SQL window. The database is now connected.
Install Firebird on the workstations that will use QuickEasy. Be sure to do a 'minimal client install' and not a full install on the workstation that will use QuickEasy, else it installs all the other extras for Firebird and the server etc which is not necessary.
Create an .ini file by navigating the QuickEasy folder > right-click > New > Text document. Save it as QEDB.ini. Open the new document and enter the file directory of the database, so that QuickEasy knows which database you wish to login to. This is case sensitive. An example of this is in the image below:
3. Login to QuickEasy > Setup > Settings & Defaults > click the Update button> Yes to update the settings within the application.
4. Create a shortcut to the BOS executable - QuickEasy folder > QuickEasy exe > right-click > Create shortcut.
