Distribution: THAILAND: introduced, in cultivation, rare. — CHINA (South): Yunnan, at 500–1,000 m altitude.
Culm size: Height to 18 m, diameter to 15 cm.
Description: "Culms (7–)10–18 m, (6–)10–15 cm in diam.; internodes 29–35(–60) cm. Branches several, central dominant. Culm sheaths deciduous, leathery, abaxially brown hairy, apex rounded; auricles absent; ligule ca. 1 mm; blade erect. Leaf sheaths white hairy; ligule 3–5 mm; blade 25–35 × 3–4.5 cm. … [flowers and seeds described]". — Flora of China [#1303].

Comments: Dendrocalamus semiscandens is considered conspecific with Dendrocalamus hamiltonii (Flora of China [#1303]).
Specimen: BS-0666 [BBG, SSG] (living plants), raised from seeds received from FMXG, Yunnan, China, as "Dendrocalamus semiscandens, 野龙竹 (yě lóng zhú)", collected May 2011 (BS-0666), received 30 May 2011, collected May 2012, not received.
Seed viability: Unknown, viability is assumed to last at least several months.
Seed weight: 10 g ≈ 100–150 dried spikelets (husk-wrapped seeds).
Seed germination: Seeds (BS-0666) were placed in moistened coir dust at 100%, in June 2011, atmospheric humidity >70%, coleoptiles emerged after 6 days, germination rate low (<40%).
