Distribution: THAILAND (South): Satun Province: เกาะราวี Ra Wi Island. — MALAYSIA: Records are not known, but the species possibly occurs in northern Peninsular Malaysia.
Culm size: Height 6–13 m, diameter 7.5 cm.
Description: "… Rhizomes short; pachymorph. Culms 600–1200 cm long; 75 mm diam.; woody. Culm-internodes terete; hollow. Lateral branches dendroid. Leaf-sheaths striately veined. Leaf-sheath oral hairs setose; 6 mm long. Ligule an eciliate membrane. Collar with external ligule. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath; petiole 0.6 cm long. Leaf-blades lanceolate; 30 cm long; 37 mm wide. Leaf-blade apex acuminate … [flowers and seeds described]." — Kew GrassBase [#1335].

Comments: The location of the type species according to the herbarium sheet is "Kedah [northern Malaysia], Rauwi". The location name "Rauwi" is possibly a transcription variant for the island Rawi, or Ra Wi (ราวี), which belongs to Thailand and borders the state of Kedah in Malaysia.
