Only one species, Ampelocalamus patellaris, is widespread, occurring in Yunnan of China, Laos, Myanmar, north-eastern India, and Nepal, and could be also a native of northern Thailand. The other Ampelocalamus species are endemic to southern China including Hainan and Taiwan.
