Specimen: BS-0658 [-] (living plants), raised from seeds. The seeds from FMXG, Yunnan, China, as "Chimonobambusa pachystachys, 刺方竹 (cì fāng zhú)", collected early May 2011, and received 30 May 2011.
Seed viability: Rather short, 2–3 weeks under normal atmospheric conditions, or 1–2 months under very low temperatures above freezing point. Seeds need to be stored in humid conditions and should not dry out. If affected by mold, a fungicide solution treatment prior to sowing is needed (e.g., 5 g Carbendazim in 2 l water, seeds to be soaked for 1–2 hours). — acc. FMXG.
Seed weight: 10 g ≈ 20–30 humid seeds, mixed, husk-wrapped seeds. and those bare of husks.
Seed germination: Seeds (BS-0658) placed in moistened coir dust at 100%, in June, atmospheric humidity >70%, coleoptiles emerged after 13 days, germination rate rather low (<20%).
Comments: The seedlings were distributed in northern Thailand, but the current locations of the cultivated plants are unknown.
Chimonobambusa pachystachys (BS-0658): Seeds, humid, with and without husks (left, top), germinating seed, on coir dust, 13th day (left, bottom), seedling, on coir dust, 31st day (right)
Chimonobambusa pachystachys cl. striped leaves
Specimen: BS-0719 [SSG] (living plant), in China raised from seeds, the plant received from FMXG, China, as "19. 花叶刺竹 (huā yè cì zhú) Chimonobambusa pachystachys (striped leaves)", 23 Nov. 2011, to be forwarded to SSG.
Characteristics: Foliage-leaf blades with cream and whitish stripes of different widths.
Comments: No statements can be made about further characteristics and species identification since the plant was forwarded to Khun Satha's garden (SSG, เวียงดอกไม้หอมเชียงใหม่), Doi Saket, approx. 930 m altitude.
