Descriptions:
(1) "Slender, erect then scrambling bamboo, with rhizomes producing very long roots (more than 30 cm), usually unbranched. Culms about 2 m tall, erect, with upper parts drooping or leaning on other vegetation, internodes 10–15 cm long, 1–2 mm in diam., smooth, with relatively thin walls, nodes slightly swollen. Branch bud 1 at each node of the main culm, from the lowermost node upwards, borne above supranodal ridge, prophyll hairy along the keels, enclosing 2 or 3 branch buds borne at the same level, developing extravaginally into slender, geniculate branches, often producing branches at its lower node, these branches bearing leaf blades, or elongating and branched again, one or two at each node, bearing leaf-blades. Culm sheaths (not well-preserved in available material) glabrous, about 4 cm long. Leafy branches 8–10 cm long, bearing 8–11 leaf blades; blades 4–7 by 0.5–0.9 cm, relatively thin, usually glabrous, base rounded, tapering to fine tips; sheaths hairy, becoming glabrous. … [flowers described, seeds unknown]." — S. Dransfield in Thai Forest Bull. (Bot.) 28, 2000: 179-182 [#1182b].
(2) "… Rhizomes short; pachymorph. Culms arching, or leaning; slender; drooping at the tip; 200 cm long; 1–2 mm diam.; woody. Culm-internodes terete; hollow; 10–15 cm long. Lateral branches dendroid. Bud complement 1. Branch complement two, or three; with subequal branches. Culm-sheaths deciduous; 4 cm long; glabrous. Leaves 8–11 per branch. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Ligule an eciliate membrane. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath. Leaf-blades lanceolate; 4–7 cm long; 5–9 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface glabrous. Leaf-blade apex attenuate …" — Kew GrassBase [#1335].

Characteristics: Main distinctive vegetative characteristics (vs. Dendrocalamus elegans, Dendrocalamus dumosus): Culm-internodes thin-walled. Branches 2–3, thin, equal-sized, each re-branching on lower nodes, secondary branches few to several, subequal, geniculate. Culm-leaf sheath glabrous; auricles assumed not to be present. Foliage-leaf sheaths glabrous. Foliage-leaf auricles not present. Foliage-leaf blades glabrous, smooth.
