Schizostachyum strictum

Synonym: Neohouzeaua stricta R. Parker, Indian Forester 54, 1928: 97; type: Myanmar, R. N. Parker 2408, K000912103 (lectotype; cf. W. L. Goh & al., 2020: 118 [#1309]).
Myanmar name: Thabut wa (Burmese).
Thai name: ตะปัตวะ (ta-pat-wa) (Karen). — T. Smitinand, 2001 [#1003].
Distribution: THAILAND (West): The species is said to occur in western Thailand. (South): No records are known, but the species is assumed to occur in the provinces of Chumphon and Ranong in southern Thailand (Classification of Bamboo, 2012 [#1223]). — MYANMAR: Tanintharyi Region (former Tenasserim). — BANGLADESH.
Description: "… caespitose. Rhizomes short; pachymorph. Culms erect; 700–900 cm long; 50 mm diam.; woody. Culm-internodes terete; hollow; 60–100 cm long; dark green; distally glabrous, or hispid. Lateral branches dendroid. Culm-sheaths deciduous; hispid; with dark brown hairs; auriculate; setose on shoulders; shoulders with 12 mm long hairs. Culm-sheath blade linear, or lanceolate; reflexed. Leaf-sheaths pubescent. Leaf-sheath oral hairs setose. Leaf-sheath auricles falcate. Ligule a ciliolate membrane. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath; petiole 0.5–1 cm long. Leaf-blades oblong; 18–28 cm long; 30–40 mm wide. Leaf-blade venation with 14 secondary veins. Leaf-blade surface scabrous; rough adaxially; glabrous, or puberulous; hairy abaxially. Leaf-blade margins scaberulous. Comments: Schizostachyum strictum and Schizostachyum dullooa are very similar (Sarawood Sungkaew, pers. comm. on Fb., 9 July 2024).
