Hello, I am Jennifer Ramsell, and this is my 12th year at The Villages High School!
This year, I am adding a new responsibility and taking on the role as RTI Specialist and 504 Case Manager. However, I will continue to teach AP Research, as the Capstone program and its students are near and dear to me.
Over the years, I have also taught AP Language and Composition, Pre-AP English 1, English 1/English 1 Honors, and English 2/English 2 Honors, and most recently the AP Capstone program (AP Seminar and Research). Before moving to Florida, I taught 7th-grade English Language Arts and College Composition in New Hampshire. Prior to teaching, I was the Director of Public Relations/Copywriting for an advertising and marketing agency in New England.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in English/American Literature from Castleton University in Vermont (now Vermont State University) and a Masters in Middle/Secondary Education from Rivier University in New Hampshire. I am a Clinical Educator and ESOL certified.
Grades 11-12 (AP Seminar prerequisite)
AP Research, the second course in the AP Capstone experience, allows students to deeply explore an academic topic, problem, issue, or idea of individual interest. Students design, plan, and implement a yearlong investigation to address a research question. Through this inquiry, they further the skills they acquired in the AP Seminar course by learning research methodology, employing ethical research practices, and accessing, analyzing, and synthesizing information. Students reflect on their skill development, document their processes, and curate the artifacts of their scholarly work through a process and reflection portfolio.
The course culminates in an academic paper of 4,000-5,000 words (accompanied by a performance exhibit, or product where applicable) and a presentation with an oral defense. (Excerpted from the College Board’s Course and Exam Description, released May 2019)
