Bio:

Entering his 14th year as a music educator and 2nd here at The Villages High School, Mr. Colt Campbell serves as Director of Bands where he guides all aspects of the band program.

Known for jump-starting and building programs, Mr. Campbell served a handful of different roles while teaching in both Virginia & South Carolina. Most recently as Director of Bands at his alma mater for 2 years, Glenvar Middle & High Schools in Salem, VA, he led the program in earning its very first “Virginia Honor Band” recognition in 2023, the highest honor given to a VA band program. Serving as the inaugural Music Performance Director at Lucy Beckham High School in Charleston, SC, Mr. Campbell oversaw the entire music program that encompassed a dynamic team of music educators. Here, he started and directed one of the first and only high school Full Orchestra programs in South Carolina. Within 3 years as Director of Bands at James Island Charter High School in Charleston, SC, enrollment doubled. Awarded for the first time in its school history, the JICHS Band Program was the sole recipient of the South Carolina Band Directors Association “Concert Achievement Award'' in 2019. During Mr. Campbell’s 5 years as Director of Bands at West-Oak High School in Westminster, SC, band enrollment tripled. In 2014, the Marching Band earned a spot in AAA State Finals for the first time in school history and every year following, placing 1st in Music Performance in 2016. The WOHS Band Program earned the prestigious SCBDA "Outstanding Performance Award" for the first time in school history in 2016, and again in 2017. Mr. Campbell was selected as the 2014 "Teacher of the Year '' at West-Oak High School.

Mr. Campbell strongly believes the skills developed in the music ensemble classroom help students create a rich, successful life outside of high school. With a focus on the “individual musician”, his students have found much success in All-District, All-State, Honor Band, and Scholarship auditions, many of whom actively enjoy music-making still today.

Mr. Campbell recently served as the bass trombonist of the Charleston Wind Symphony and has performed with multiple regional orchestras and jazz ensembles. In 2010, Mr. Campbell was selected as one of 3 finalists in the American Trombone Workshop: National Solo Competition, hosted by the U.S. Army Band.

Above all, Mr. Campbell enjoys spending quality time with his family. He happily resides in Middleton with his wife, Katie, their three children, Conner, Cooper, Piper, and their dog, Birdie. He also enjoys outdoor adventures, woodworking, and theme parks.
