VHS Scholarship Information
SENIORS ONLY
*Students can invite parents/guardians to join
This Google Classroom will be devoted to local and community scholarships related to VHS. You have been invited to join this google classroom, because you are a senior! It will be up to you, THE STUDENT to apply for the scholarships that are being posted, if you are eligible.
Being in this google classroom does NOT automatically mean you are qualified for EVERY scholarship that is posted. It is the student's responsibility to read and understand what is needed to apply for each scholarship.
HOW THIS CLASSROOM WORKS:
1.) Once posted the scholarship, as a PDF document or link, students can print or download to complete.
2.) Be sure to read ALL the requirements to see if you are eligible to apply and include the required documents.
3.) Then, students must turn in that HARD COPY of the scholarship to Student Services on or before the due date on the COVER PAGE by 3:00 pm.
4.) EMAILED Scholarships will NOT be accepted unless given prior approval.
KEY POINTS to earning the MOST MONEY!!
1.) DUE DATES: Scholarships are due by 3:00pm to Student Services. The actual scholarship may have a different due date, but you are to follow what is written on the COVER PAGE. This will allow time for mailing/pick up and to review for any missing items. If you happen to miss the due date, you may mail/send the scholarship to the committee on your own, just be sure you have all the materials needed!!
2.) BEST WAY TO COMPLETE THE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION: Please use a PEN or re-type the application (including your name, the name of the scholarship, the question and answers). Make sure it's neat and looks presentable.
3.) RECOMMENDATION LETTERS: Some scholarships will ask for a letter or reference. Be sure you give your recommender time before the scholarship is due. The appropriate amount of time would be at least 2 weeks notice. You should email your teachers, coaches, mentors, employer, community leaders NOW asking them for a generic scholarship recommendation letter so you have it on file.
**If the scholarship requires a counselor signature or something to be filled out (such as GPA, service hours or test scores) please ask your counselor to complete that information, prior to turning in.
Community Service
Students may now use paid work hours in lieu of community service hours. Service and paid work hours can be combined. Hours must be completed with an agency, company, organization or business where they can be verified. Students must be in high school (summer before 9th grade is acceptable). Student must complete separate forms for each agency.
SENIORS-Community service hours and/or working hours must be completed and submitted by April 1st in order to be considered for end of year awards, graduation cords, The Buffalo Scholarship Foundation and other additional scholarships.
Underclassman can submit hours up until the last day of school, for the current school year.
