All sophomores and several juniors will take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). This standardized test administered by the College Board, is cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Information for Sophomores (Class of 2025)
All sophomores will take the test free of charge and DO NOT need to register for this exam. The PSAT/NMSQT practice booklets will be provided to sophomores in their business classes. Additional practice tests are available online at the College Board website listed below. Sophomores should start practicing for the test and be ready to take the PSAT on October 12th.
There are no make ups for this exam.

Any Junior who hopes to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program MUST take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) on October 12th (during the school day) and MUST register in student services no later than September 9th, 2022. The cost for juniors is $20.00 (fee waivers may be available).
In order to be considered for the National Merit Scholarship Competition, students must take the PSAT/NMSQT during their junior year. October 12th will be the only opportunity to take this test, there will be no makeups. PSAT/NMSQT practice booklets will be provided to students as they register in student services and pay the fee of $20.00. Checks or cash payment will be accepted. Checks should be made out to VHS.
