DREAMS WITHOUT GOALS ARE JUST DREAMS
Welcome everyone, I am Mr. Godfrey.
I will be your instructor for the school year. My family and I moved from Long Island, NY in June 2022 to provide our family with a better and more opportunistic lifestyle. I am married to my wife Courtney for 11 years, who is a 3rd grade teacher at TVCS. I have two boys ages 10 and 5 who actively keep me on my toes. Hobbies I have include basketball, pickleball, and my favorite, caddying in golf tournaments for my sons.
I have been a part of the healthcare world since 2007. I have a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh NY. I have worked in various healthcare settings over the past 15 years ranging from entry level through administration. The main goal of why I am here is to help you start thinking outside of the box and see the big picture in health science and how to apply it to your own individual goals. I hope to pass on my knowledge and experiences to ultimately make you more successful in your future careers.

What this program is all about:
The program is geared toward different learning objectives depending on your grade level. This program is currently offered only to juniors and seniors.
Juniors (Health Science 1): This course focuses on medical terminology and anatomy and physiology (A & P). When pursuing any type of health related career, basic understanding of both terminology as well as Anatomy and Physiology will be required. This course is designed to set a strong foundation of A & P, basic medical terms, and understand how they apply to each of our unique body systems. Juniors will also have the opportunity to earn their first industry certification at the end of the year. The certification serves as the EOY exam. Certification Junior year is the Certified Patient Care Tech (CPCT), offered through NHA.
Seniors (Health Science 2): Senior year students will take 2 different courses to complete Health Science 2. Health Foundation (S1) and Allied Health (S2). Students will have the opportunity to go into the community to shadow at various health facilities. This will provide them a tremendous learning opportunity and personal opportunity to identify areas they like or dislike. Students will also be given the opportunity to earn different National Certification that are currently highly ranked as most useful health certifications. In addition to this, students will all leave certified in Basic Life Support (BLS). Skills will also be a key component senior year. They will primarily be learned through competency based learning, with return demonstrations. This will be a great opportunity learning what the "real world" expectation are. HOSA, a global student led- organization will also be a large component of senior year. HOSA actively promotes career opportunities in the health industry. Dr. Henderson & Ms. Sookdeo run the HOSA club at TVHS, but skills and competitions prep will be a large part of S1.
Scrubs: Students will be required to wear scrubs to class / school each day. There is a specific scrub uniform attire that the students will need to strictly adhere to. All scrubs must be purchased through Custom Apparel. Any scrubs besides the designated scrubs will not be permitted. If there is a concern about sizing or length a special order must be requested. I am available for any clarifications or help needed with ordering.
**If students wish to wear outerwear (sweatshirts) they will be required to purchase this through the same company (Custom Apparel). The expectation is to wear the designated navy blue sweatshirt that displays the Health Academy logo.
What can students expect to accomplish or earn?
In this class, students will be provided the chance to earn certain certifications. What certifications do is provide opportunities for students to potentially land a job in healthcare. Currently the Health Science academy will provide students with the chance to earn 3 different types of certifications.
NHA - Certified Patient Care Tech (CPCT)
NHA - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
NHA - Certified EKG Technician (CET)
Students should expect and be prepared to work hard everyday. The Health science academy courses aim to provide tough but fair content that is systematically taught to lay the foundation needed to further their careers in Health Science areas. The goal is for students to go outside their comfort zones and ultimately embrace all that health science has to offer. I will be utilizing key teaching methods that students can expect to see in future employment. My core goal is to provide students with real life knowledge carefully blended with up to date classroom learning. These are some of the learning techniques students can expect to see:
Competency based learning (Standard at most health organizations)
Hands on skills
Reasoning / Problem solving ( Preparation for exams / future licensing tests)
Workplace attitude / manager expectations
Case studies

Mr. Godfrey
