For this project we were asked to draw three drawings, a self-portrait, a linear space drawing, and a random object. I started off brainstorming what each picture would be. First I chose to do the random object. I chose carrots. I did them with only pencil as I liked the look of it and the shading that I could incorporate. I messed up a lot and often had to re-draw certain areas but overall I liked the outcome. The second one I decided to do was the linear space drawing. At first I thought it would be easy but soon realized that drawing linear spaces was difficult. After a while of trying, I looked online and realized that I need to draw a wall and then lines that connected the corners. I decided to do a school hallway. There were tiles, lockers, lights, and signs that were challenging but fun to draw. Once I had my sketch I went over it with darker lines and did some shading. This was also done in just pencil. Finally, the self portrait. I had actually just taken an art class in 8th grade where my teacher slowly went over how to properly draw a self portrait. Although I didn’t remember everything I remembered a lot. I found a picture of myself and tried to copy it as accurately as I could. I drew with just a pencil, lightly, and once I had everything I shaded darker on the hair and darker areas of my face. It didn’t look a lot like me but I was satisfied with my outcome.
In all of these pieces I used a lot of line work, shape, and visual texture to create some patterns and unity to my piece. There wasn’t any color in any of them but I really didn’t feel the need to put any in them. There's some negative space in the carrot drawing and my self portrait but not much in the linear perspective one. I was successful with my shaping and sizing of my carrots, some aspects of the linear space drawing, and most of my self portrait as they didn’t look extremely off.
I feel that I didd a pretty good job on all of these considering the fact we didn’t have a lot of boundaries as to what to draw/how to draw it. I feel I did well on the shaping and shading of my projects. I feel that I could’ve worked on my self portrait a little longer and really taken the time to make it look more realistic and like myself. If I were to do this again I would’ve again, taken more time on my self portrait and maybe a little more time on the linear perspective drawing as it looked a little unproportional in some places.
