Artist Statement

For this project, we were to explore our generated inquiries by creating our 13th sustained investigation.  I changed my investigation as just wasn't feeling it with my past one and was running out of ideas. I'm changing my investigation to portraits and exploring with emotion. For this one, I painted my friend Maya to show a happy emotion but also concepts of distortion.

I used acrylic paint on canvas to create this piece.

For this piece, I think I captured the distortion fo the original photo well. I think I also captured Maya's facial features really well. I really like how the freckles brought the face together and added to the realism that I've been trying to create in all my pieces. I really love this piece, however, it was a piece I did last year and have added to -- it is hard to see any distinct differences as I added small things like highlights, shadows, freckles, and fixing her hair. I admit that this seems lazy and I'm definitely going to make this one of the pieces that I revise when we're done with our si's. I think I'm going to change the background a lot, maybe adding in different color tones, or fully taking out the black and making the canvas a circle.
