Artist Statement

The main ideas guided in my artwork really aren’t too special. The Cricket is obviously trying to make the k and c look like a cricket head and wings. The FHS Earth Club logo is showing the earth, representing how we do things earth related, and some flowers - to bring a happy and bright factor into our club (flowers can also represent the earth).

I used pencil, pen, sharpie, and paper to create this piece. I used form to create a pattern and balance of lettering. I used color to create a set contrast between balck and white space. I used lines to create variety and unity with the letters in both pieces, specifically the Earth Club one. I used space to create an emphasis on the lettering as well as the black and white colors.

I went through many processes of brainstorming and simply just coming up with the design plan for my artwork. I usually research to get inspiration for my pieces. The graffiti-like design of the Cricket one was inspired by graffiti I have seen and also some internet pictures. For the Freeport logo, I really didn’t use any internet pictures but simply original thinking. I often revise my work when in the process of drawing the final design. For the Freeport logo, we had to revise it in photoshop, which definitely cleaned it up. I think I like the Earth Club logo better, however I still enjoy the Cricket one. If I were to change anything I’d change the proportion of the Cricket logo. The C overpowers all of the other layers and it looks a little unproportional. Overall this project didn’t take too long but it challenged my brainstorming abilities and creativity.
