For this project we were supposed to create a random linear space including a table, couch, two chairs, 3 windows or artwork, a door, a shelf, and a rug and then another of a picture we take ourselves using our knowledge from the shapes we drew with the vanishing point. We were also told to take a picture of a hallway or room in the school and draw it correctly. I started by looking at the picture of the hallway that I took and placed a vanishing point at an appropriate place. Then I drew the back wall. I continued to draw the for lines that went off of the corners. With the help of Mr. A, I drew the lockers, the door, and the door on the right. After that I added the details like the specific lines on the lockers, the framing of the walls, the ceiling tiles, the bricks on the side wall, and of course, the duck. I used just pencil for this drawing and colored pencil for the duck. For the shapes I just used pencil and for the other formative I used pencil and watercolors. I used a ruler to get straight lines and angles for the walls, floor, ceiling, doors, and lockers.
I used lines and shaping to create unity and balance in my piece. I used my graphite color to make an emphasis on the contrast between the darker shades and lighter shades. I also feel like the duck harmonizes the piece lol.
Theres not really a story that goes along with my work. This project relates to my life as I have a duck, a pekin duck, which looks exactly like that. I wanted to draw a duck in one of my pieces for a while now so I thought this fit perfectly and was kind of funny as its not really normal for a duck to just be wandering around in a school. I'm proud of how the walls, ceiling and lockers turned out. I struggled with many things throughout this project. If we look back to my formative I clearly messed up on a lot of things. The chairs look kind of funky and I used watercolors on non-watercolor paper which made the paper crinkly and the colors didn't spread or match nicely. For the summative I had a hard time with making straight and correctly-angled lines even though I had a ruler. I'm unsure why but I have a hard time with rulers as i'm kind of a perfectionist with lines but I ended u making good and straight lines. I also had a hard time with the bricks on the wall to the the right. The angle was tricky and I kept looking back and forth at the original picture I took and my drawing. After many trials I was happy with how my lines looked and added the brick pattern. After looking at it for a while something looked slightly off but I decided it was too late as I had already drawn the detailed bricks and done some shading. I could've asked Mr. A via email but I felt that that would be a little confusing. One more thing I'd like to mention is that I had already drawn one summative and me and Mr. A both decided that I should redo it as the vanishing point wasn't fully matched up to all the lines, many things looked pretty off and I again used watercolors on non-watercolor paper. But overall I think it came out good and was far better than my original.
