Artist Statement

For this project, we were to explore our generated inquiries by creating our 6th sustained investigation. My investigation is focused on the lively hood of Maine lobstermen. For this one specifically, I wanted to portray a lobster's perspective of big boat lights during the night.

I used colored pencils and markers to create this piece.

For this piece, I wanted to play with scale and proportion. I played with scale by making the lobster smaller and played with proportion by making the antennae bigger. I did this to play with space and show the idea of the ocean floor and how big it is. It's not very clear so I want to fix that somehow. I drew the purple-looking things connecting the lights to show movement (so the light is actually just one that's moving). I wanted to incorporate the theme of abstractness that I've been implementing so I made the antennae multi-colored and the background a vibrant pink.
