For this project, we were to explore our generated inquiries by creating our 11th sustained investigation. I changed my investigation as just wasn't feeling it with my past one and was running out of ideas. I'm changing my investigation to portraits and exploring with emotion. For this one, I painted Theo and his sister. Due to Theo's passing this year, I felt it would be a good way to honor him and show emotion through art.
I used acrylic paint on canvas to create this piece.
For this piece, I wanted to further my experience with realism and the time that goes into creating realistic pieces. It's a lot of experimentation with color and value. It's many layers of color and then specific shading and highlighting. For this, I did his sister in color and Theo grey scaled. This was an interesting process. You'd think the grey scale might be a little easier as it seems like less color differentiation -- yet I found it more challenging. However, it really helped me play more with my technique and emphasizes the element of value in art. Even though the background looks bland, I feel it emphasizes the faces really well and creates a memory-like feeling.
