For this project, we were asked to create 3 pinch pots using the pinching technique. The subject of my creations are a weird/cool-looking face, a cool blueberry bowl, and a little cup. This work was made with clay, glazes, and other clay tools.
I used the glaze Sm-42 (mint) for the small cup and C-21 for the blueberry bowl. Unfortunately, I didn’t glaze the cool head, but honestly, I think it still looks good and almost like some sort of fossil. I used form to create a pattern on the top of the blueberry bowl. I used color to create unity with the small cup. I used shape and line to create emphasis on the cool head and its eyes/ear.
There isn't too much meaning behind these pieces. The small cup is a present for a friend. The bowl represents a blueberry or just a regular useful holder for jewelry, etc.. The face had three eyes. This could relate to the idea of your “third eye”. Or the idea of your two real eyes being closed and your mind still “awake/open”. I’m proudest of the simplicity/cleanness of the bowl and cup. In the face, I’m proudest of the eyes and nose. I struggled with the small cup surprisingly. It was hard to maintain the same width between each side as well as the same thickness of the clay. I overcame these struggles by going slow and trying multiple times until I got it. As I said, I enjoy all of these pieces however if I were to change something I might have glazes the face or added more detail to the plain-colored pots.
