Automobile Ads in The New Yorker

Automobiles slowly were making their way back to the consumer marketplace, but had a wait list. A full page ad for the new Kaiser and Frazer automobiles announced that the newly formed company had 100,000 advance orders for their 1947 models because “they have what America wants!” The Kaiser had “now for the first time, the advantage of front-wheel drive for all America.”

Ford Motors advertised its Lincoln for “those who value distinction.” You could also rent a car from Chase on West 57th Street by day, week or month. Armstrong tires ran a cartoon showing doctors discussing a patient in a Napoleon hat clutching a tire. "Delusions of grandeur, “the caption reads, “says even his baby buggy had Armstrong Tires."
