The "Call Me Mister" Creative Team

Arnold Auerbach, who wrote the show's sketches, was the son of a prominent Manhattan physician and had been a writer for radio before the war. He had been discharged from the Special Services unit of the Army in January just before rehearsals began. His job was to write sketches to be performed by camp units that did not get visited by the professionally produced USO shows.

Set designer Lester Polakov was a much-decorated bombardier. Director Robert H. Gordon, who also had directed "Pins and Needles," was on leave from the USO Camp shows unit when rehearsals started. Choreographer John Wray, the son of a Hollywood character actor of the same name, had served in the Navy. He would later direct Ed Sullivan's TV show. Costume designer Grace Houston's bone fide was that she had contributed to the Stage Door canteens.
