Midtown Restaurants

In Midtown Manhattan in 1946 you would find a great diversity of restaurants. Relatively few people lived in midtown but it was where many people worked or came for entertainment. Some establishments catered to businessmen. Some targeted theater and movie goers and tourists. Most of the chain restaurants had major outposts in midtown. Most of the snooty, exclusive clubby places that barred mere mortals from entering were located here as well. Some of these top tier restaurants served fairly pedestrian fare, relying more on their exclusivity and reputation for attracting celebrities than on their cuisine.
