Jim Hurley had an outdoors column on fishing and hunting. Ken Kling's comic strip "Joe and Asbestos," devoted to horse racing, appeared in the sports section, as did "Pete," a single panel from Fred Weatherly on boxing with offensive depictions of African Americans

The finals took place at the 69th Regiment Armory before a crowd of 8,000. Boys and girls teams competed in both senior and junior divisions.
