More Art Gallery Shows From The Sunday Times

"Stress on the Exotic" was a round-up of some of the new shows at the art galleries around town.

Galerie St, Etienne had a new "primitive." the Hungarian Ladis Szabo, His peasants in costumes of his native land and his depiction of crowds at an American racetrack provided a "really entertaining event." "Primitive" art was a big deal at this time, including a number of faux primitives.

Highly expressionist oils and water-colors by E. Brygider were at the Argent. William Fett combined abstraction and surrealism at Durlachers and were"highly interesting." Abstract paintings by Theodoros Stamos, one of the youngest members of the Abstract Expressionist group, and semi-abstract, surrealistically flavored paintings by Giglio Dante were being shown at the Mortimer Brandt Gallery.
