Easter Breakfast Suggestions From Prudence Penny
In addition to a regular food column, Prudence Penny appeared on radio and wrote cookbooks, leading a very busy life for someone who did not actually exist. She was a trademarked name. Hearst employed several home economists over the decades to write and make personal appearances as Prudence Penny. There were different Prudence Pennys in different cities. Here is recent LA Times story about her.
Miss Penny devoted two pages of the Sunday Mirror magazine of April 14 to menus for Easter Sunday breakfast, acknowledging that the meal might be served at different times depending on the family's plans for the day-- sunrise service? Mid-morning mass? The Easter Parade? Perhaps the "breakfast" meal would become an evening supper after a big midday dinner. In any case, Penny suggested making the meal "something special" with flowers on the table and a guest or two.
Here are her suggestions, all to be served with hot coffee for the adults and milk for the children.
