The Top Attractions of the Week

According to Variety, The following eight pictures did the most business over the Easter weekend. Not surprisingly, the top three were playing at the largest, most prestigious movie palaces with the biggest stage shows. The other leaders had all opened recently, several that week. While "The Virginian" at the Paramount had the biggest audience of the week's premieres. despite a tepid critical response, most of the press considered the Danny Kaye vehicle, "The Kid From Brooklyn." the week's big opening. Kaye, who had made his name in Manhattan nightclubs and the Broadway stage before heading to Hollywood, was a big local favorite with the press and public. The film would settle in for a long run.
