Dan Parker on Sports

In his column in the Sunday Mirror on April 14 Dan Parker ventured his predictions for the upcoming baseball season.

Parker had the Yankees taking the pennant in the American League. Parker wrote that despite some weakness in pitching, "there's enough power on this club to supply the explosive force for an atom bomb." He also foresaw record attendance at the refurbished stadium. The closest competitors were the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers. The Philadelphia Athletics, he felt, were doomed to another year in the cellar.

In his opinion the National League race would go to the St. Louis Cardinals with the Chicago Cubs and the Brooklyn Dodgers the also rans. He placed the New York Giants in fifth, writing "that mysterious element which is setting in over this aged ball club appears to be rigor mortis." He had the Cincinnati Reds in last place.
