Naadhbhṛṅga and The Music Academy Madras present day 7 of MSS 105, a week long celebration of the music of Vidushi Smt. M S Subbulakshmi, on the occasion of her 105th birth anniversary. Today we present the Concert performed by Smt. Subbulakshmi on the occasion of the Foundation Stone Ceremony for the building of The Music Academy, on the

5th of October, 1955. The chief guest on the occasion was Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, who stayed to listen to the concert till the very end. This concert recording is very special as it is possibly one of the earliest live recordings of Smt. Subbulakshmi that we have. We are extremely grateful to the family of Smt. Subbulakshmi for providing us this recording from their personal archives. Though unfortunately it is incomplete, the brilliance of her music and the great historicity of the occasion make this recording very special indeed. We sincerely thank Sri V Sriram, Historian and Secretary, The Music Academy Madras, for his foreword, setting the historical context for this rare recording. We are also thankful to Sri V Shrinivasan for helping us with the many photographs that helped beautify this recording.
