Day 3; Sat. 6/28, A Less Romantic Side of Trains then into Charlottesville

Post date: Jun 29, 2014 11:10:04 PM

Last night we camped on the grass behind the volunteer fire department of Mineral, VA. Cost $0. However, about 5 times during the night a train would rumbled past, 50 yards away, sounding a horn that was accented by the grumbling of laden cars on metal tracks. We highlight of the night was when the train whistle drowned out the fire dept. scanner that also added to our evening cacophony. However, I will have fond memories of Mineral because of the hospitality of the people and the fellow cyclists we met. We've had a shorter day of riding, 41 miles, to prep for the hills of the next two days. Doug & Teresa are headed to Monticello, while I chill in our deluxe hotel. Had a great lunch at Ace BBQ, downtown Charlottesville, thanks to Yelp. This idea of riding 3 hours, eating a big lunch & relaxing for 1 hour total, then pedaling for 2 more hours seems to be working. Some general fatigue of many muscles but given good rest they recover.

"Knee high by 4th of July", but here the corn is over my head.

Is it "Bum Pass or Bump . . . ?"
