Allow me to start with the evening when we shared a wonderful meal with Eric, a deeply tanned man, about my age, from Menlo Park, CA and Sam, a recent university graduate from Perth, Australia. Great conversation over the meal and milkshakes, which were amazing great. All this because we are on the TransAmerica Route of http://www.adventurecycling.org/ We're camped at a volunteer fire station in Mineral, VA and started this morning from Mechanicsville, VA. A good day of about 60 miles. The land is filled with verdant lawns, on big lots, where everyone seems to own a riding mower to keep them ship-shape. I also felt like I was in "horse country" and this was reinforced as we pedaled past a young lady practicing jumping, just like in the Olympics.
