Is this safe?

Answer: Like every adventure, there is some risk. However, the Trans American bike route was specifically designed to keep bike riders on the more remote roads across the country for safety reasons. It also was designed to include scenic areas and areas of historical significance. So they have attempted to provide a great ride as safely as possible. Jon and I have purchased maps outlining the route in detail.

How long will it take to complete the route?

Answer: At 60 miles a day, we should complete the 2200 miles to Pueblo, CO with 37 days of riding. Adding in some rest days along the way and perhaps some sight seeing days, it will probably be between 43 and 45 days for us to get to Pueblo, Co from Yorktown, VA. The logs of previous riders who have done this indicate that the trip all the way across takes somewhere between 80 and 90 days.

Where will you stay?

Answer: We plan on a combination of campgrounds where we can swap stories with other riders on the Trans American route and hotels where we can find the creature comforts of a bed and a flush potty.
