These are my gelatin prints. For this project I had some squares and rectangle of gelatin. I rolled ink with a soft brayar onto the gelatin. After this, I put different materials in it. I could put a material in like a stamp, or I could set some on top. I then set a piece of paper on top and smoothed it out and rubbed over the back. I pulled the piece off. This gave me negative space. I then took off all the materials left on top, to make positive space print. I made a ghost print. Then I rinsed off the gelatin in cold water.
The first print I made by setting netting and rubber bands on the gelatin. The print I got with these on had a lot of white negative space. After taking them off, the print was much cooler, which is what I kept as one of my final prints. The second one there is also done with some rubber bands. This time I added some of my finger prints, and made some marks with bubble wrap. The forth one I made with stencils. I had the letters F, L, and Y. I placed the letters on top of the gelatin, which was covered in ink, and made a print. I took them off and made another print. Since the ink in the back was slightly worn off, the letters came out dark. The final one I did was a print of the side of my hand, with my fingers, I made it look like a small foot. I also made some bubble wrap marks.
I decided to hand manipulate two of my prints. The first one I decided to do was the FLY one. I was pretty sure I wanted to draw wings on the side but I didn't know what kind. I sketched a couple different ones, and decided on the folded wings. After drawing them, I traced them with a blue pen. This pen didn't match the other blue so I drew some lines in the middle to help it all connect.
The other one I chose to manipulate had the small foot in the middle. I started by extending all of the circles that were created by the bubble wrap. With multicolored pens I traces the circles on the bottom, and with blue pens I traced the circles on the top. There was a small crack in the gelatin I used so that showed up on the print. I turned this crack into a root of a tree, and I drew branches and leaves. I also, with charcoal, drew some seeds surrounding the tree.
