Arrive Alive

Don't Drink Then Drive

I made this piece as an awareness poster for the arrive alive art and writing contest, to encourage young drivers from distracted driving. It could discourage drinking, texting, or drugs paired with driving. I chose to pursue an anti-drinking and driving poster.

I started out this piece by sketching out the inside of a car with pencil. I then used water color to paint what could be seen through the windshield. I had a tree in the forefront of the picture so that it was clear that the car had crashed into it. I went in with a fine pointed paint brush and pen for the car details, in order to contrast the synthetic with the natural. I also added crushed beer cans in the bottom right of the image. I used white pen to add detailing into the windshield to give the effect of it being smashed. I then used the white pen, with black pen, to add the lettering. I came up with the rhyme "You wouldn't have crashed if you weren't driving smashed," in order to appeal to the focus audience with something funny that would stick with them.

Overall I like the composition and simplicity of the piece. It is not too busy. I don't expect it to win this competition, but I do like the messaging and the image.
