Inclusion Awards

Different Pieces of the Same Puzzle

For this project, we had to create a project for the Maine inclusion design awards. I wanted to create a project that shows the unity of humanity by representing many different disabilities and creating a piece of art that compares them all as just being people. The disabilities I included in my design are mostly physical, but I included puzzle pieces in the background as a multipurpose, both representing mental disabilities and the unity of each piece.

I started out the project by sketching the outline of a person, and then splitting the body into six sections for each major part of the body. I wanted to come up with a different disability, two for each body part, and connect them all into one. I included deafness, prosthetics, quadriplegia, and more. I also painted each part with different variations on color of skin and clothing to show more inclusion.

For the background I chose to keep them in primary colors. I broke the border by making the puzzle pieces continue into the border of the piece. After painting the entire image, I went over the details in colored pens for texture.
